The World Happiness Report is a survey of global happiness that ranks 156 countries by how happy their citizens perceive themselves to be. The report ranks countries on six key variables that support well-being: income, freedom, trust, healthy life expectancy, social support and generosity. This report was released by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network for the United Nations on March 20, which has been declared as the World Happiness Day by the UN General Assembly.

Finland has been ranked as the happiest country in the world for the second year in succession. For the second consecutive year, Finland secures the top spot as the happiest country in the world. In 2017, Finland was ranked 5th in the happiness report.

Denmark is the second happiest country in the world, gaining one spot since 2018. While Norway is the third happiest country, it lost a spot since last year.

Iceland is the fourth happiest county. The country has retained its spot as the fourth happiest country in the world for the two successive years.

Netherlands in the fifth happiest country in the world. It has gained a spot since the last year's happiness report.

The United Kingdom is on the 15th spot, gaining three places since 2018. The United States ranks at the 19th place for happiness, losing one place since 2018 despite being one of the richest countries in the world.

Pakistan is on the 67th place, gaining 8 places since 2018. China is on the 93rd spot this year, losing 7 places. Bangladesh is on the 125th spot; it lost 10 places since 2018.

India is on the 140th place in the world happiness rankings. In 2018, it secured 133rd spot out of 156 countries included in the report.

People in the war-torn South Sudan are the most unhappy people, followed by Central African Republic (155), Afghanistan (154), Tanzania (153) and Rwanda (152). Out of the bottom 10 countries in the index, six are African nations.
