Tech job cuts: Apple is cutting jobs across teams tied to Siri, Vision Pro and some artificial intelligence features, in a move that reflects how sharply the company’s priorities are shifting as it pushes towards new devices and AI. The cuts affect more than 200 people across the Vision Pro organisation, Siri teams and software groups, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported.
The company is also laying off employees in Intelligent Systems Experience, a team within its software engineering organisation that works on some AI features on Apple devices, people with knowledge of the matter told Bloomberg. As part of the changes, Apple is largely shutting down a Vision Pro gaming team and reducing the size of a unit that produces immersive video content for the headset.

Apple confirms team realignment
In a statement, Apple acknowledged that it was realigning some teams “to evolve our business to deliver the best experiences for our users.”
“While we will create new roles as part of this change, it will also impact a limited number of existing roles,” the company said. “We are grateful to these team members for their contributions, and we are committed to supporting them throughout their transition, including opportunities to apply for other roles at Apple.”

More than 200 jobs affected
People familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that about 100 positions are being eliminated from the Vision Pro organisation and another 100 from the Siri and software teams. The personnel moves have not been publicly announced.
The Siri reshuffle is linked to an upcoming AI-infused version of the assistant that is being built on a new technical architecture. Bloomberg reported that the change requires different expertise, leading Apple to eliminate a small number of existing roles, reallocate resources and create new positions to support the updated Siri.
AI teams being reorganised
The changes to Intelligent Systems Experience are part of a wider effort to reorganise work on AI-powered capabilities. As more groups add AI functions to apps, features and services, Apple is realigning teams to match priorities and speed up development. The restructuring is expected to eliminate some existing positions while creating new roles.
Vision Pro gaming and immersive video teams hit
Bloomberg reported that Apple described the Vision Pro changes to employees as an attempt to realign priorities based on how customers are using the device and to direct resources towards other future products.
Immersive video has been one of the key selling points of the Vision Pro since launch. However, each 3D video requires multiple crews of Apple employees and contractors, and an episode in an immersive video series can cost several million dollars to produce. Those costs have put pressure on the business because the number of active Vision Pro users remains limited.
The headset was seen as a major new product when it launched in February 2024, but its cumbersome design and its now-$3,699 price have made it difficult to sell. Apple has also maintained a team focused on gaming features for Vision Pro, though the device has seen limited traction among gamers.
Apple not abandoning Vision Pro
Apple is not ending its immersive video efforts entirely. According to Bloomberg, the company plans to make a smaller number of videos in-house while encouraging third-party companies to develop content for the device.
The company has told employees that Vision Pro and its visionOS operating system are not going away. In the near term, however, Apple is focused on launching smart glasses that would not support immersive video or advanced gaming titles. Bloomberg News has previously reported that Apple is still considering a new Vision Pro model for release as early as the end of 2028.
The job cuts across Siri, Vision Pro and AI teams come as Apple reshapes its workforce around updated AI tools, changing customer use of the headset and a broader shift towards future devices, Bloomberg reported.
