Union Budget 2026 | Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a major push to boost tourism, heritage, and conservation under Budget 2026–27. She said a National Destination Digital Knowledge Grid will be created to digitally document India’s cultural, spiritual, and heritage sites, generating new employment opportunities for local researchers, historians, content creators, and technology partners. Highlighting India’s eco-tourism potential, the FM unveiled plans for sustainable trekking, hiking, turtle, and bird-watching trails across Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, the Eastern and Western Ghats, and coastal regions. She also underlined India’s leadership in wildlife conservation, noting that the country will host the first Global Big Cat Summit under the International Big Cat Alliance. To strengthen heritage tourism, 15 iconic archaeological sites—including Lothal, Dholavira, Sarnath, and Leh Palace—will be developed into immersive cultural destinations with curated walkways, storytelling technologies, and enhanced visitor experiences.
