FAQ'S

From Mexico City’s opening whistle to a July 19 finale in New Jersey, the 2026 FIFA World Cup has pushed football’s biggest stage into uncharted territory.

The United States, Canada and Mexico jointly host the tournament, marking the first three-nation World Cup. The competition opened June 11 at Mexico City Stadium and will finish at New York New Jersey Stadium. FIFA scheduled a record 104 matches across 16 cities and expanded the field from 32 to 48 teams.

From Toronto and Vancouver to Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami and Monterrey, venues across North America now carry the tournament. FIFA split the field into 12 groups of four. The top two teams in each group and the eight best third-place finishers advance to the round of 32, adding a knockout stage before the round of 16. The group phase includes 72 matches.

Argentina entered as defending champion alongside Brazil, France, England, Spain, Germany and Portugal. Cabo Verde, Curaçao, Jordan and Uzbekistan made their World Cup debuts, giving the record field four first-time entrants.

The tournament returns men’s World Cup football to North America 32 years after the United States hosted the 1994 edition. On July 19, one of 48 teams will leave New Jersey with the trophy after FIFA’s largest World Cup to date.
