Maruti Suzuki on Friday released the broad sketches of its upcoming compact sports utility vehicle (SUV), branded as Vitara Breeza that would make its global debut in the Auto Expo in Greater Noida next month.

The much-awaited super compact SUV from Maruti Suzuki Brezza, that means "fresh breeze" in Italian is expected to compete with Ford EcoSport and Mahindra's upcoming KUV100, along with crossover models like Honda Mobilio.

The compact SUV market in India has been on a surge with younger customers vying for smart and muscular vehicles. Already the Hyundai Creta compact SUV has created a ripple in the market with its dynamic appeal and distinct styling.

Maruti is also expected to being  some crisp design to the compact SUV and the first sketch of Vitara Brezza points to a stylish vehicle that is confident and energetic, designed to especially appeal the urban customer.

"Several elements in the exterior design impart a distinct character to the Brezza: a balanced proportion supported by square wheel arches, short overhangs, high ground clearance and upright hood gives the vehicle a confident stance. The raising belt and rocker lines, and the roofline that slopes down gently towards the rear give the vehicle a dynamic posture," the company said in a media release.

Maruti has been working on the vehicles for more than four years after it had showcase the concept XA Alpha in 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi. The company was first to launch a compact SUV in 1986; Gypsy that is still available but lost appeal and market with no changes or upgrades in the vehicle.

Vitara Breeza is expected to change Maruti perception in the SUV market and the new product as its designers say: "The body surfaces are natural and sculpted tastefully to create the right interplay of highlight and shadow that makes the Brezza standout in the crowd."
