Arunish Chawla, Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, lauds the Indian pharma industry as a "rising tiger of the Indian economy" and highlights its growing global stature. He emphasizes the success of the 'Make in India' initiative, celebrating its 10-year milestone, and the roaring impact of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme in the pharma and medical-tech sectors. Chawla notes the establishment of 50 greenfield plants, with 50 more in the pipeline, underscoring India's enhanced export capabilities. According to him, the Indian pharma industry has officially become export-oriented, growing significantly year-on-year. He further states that the government is focusing on quality, with India aiming to become the world’s reliable pharmacy. Major global pharma companies are expanding their footprint in India, and a growing number of Contract Research Manufacturing and Development Organisations (CRDMO) are emerging. Chawla concludes by noting that India’s innovation and regulatory framework is also undergoing transformation to support this growth.
