Maharashtra on Monday unveiled separate industrial policy guidelines for six industrial sectors.

These include retail, electronics, fabrication, a policy to encourage SC/ST investments, ports and a general single window industrial clearance policy. All these policies are aimed to ease bottlenecks and to encourage investment in the state, said Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

"Manufacturing holds the key to the future growth of Maharashtra and half of employment in the State still comes from agriculture, which contributes only 11 per cent to the State's GDP," he said at the Maharashtra Investment seminar at the Make in India venue, attended by all the Union Ministers from Maharashtra, besides Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State (IC) for Commerce and Industry, and captains of industry like Ratan Tata, Sajjan Jindal, Sanjay Kirloskar etc.

One of the biggest shortcomings of the state was that infrastructure growth had not kept pace with industrial growth. This was one of the key issues that his government was working on addressing. To improve the state's infrastructure, the new Mumbai Airport would be completed by 2019 and the government is also considering a new airport at Pune, said the Chief Minister.

Subhash Desai, Industries Minister, Government of Maharashtra, said when the state government came to power at the end of 2014, he had set a target of bringing Rs 5 lakh crore of investment into the state by 2019. This target, he stated, was well on its way to being met in 2016 itself.
