SC sentences Sasikala to 4 years in jail in DA case
A bench of Justices P C Ghose and Amitava Roy pronounced the judgement today on a batch of appeals, including the one filed by Karnataka government against the High Court verdict acquitting prime accused Jayalalithaa and her close aide and now AIADMK chief Sasikala.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday convicted newly-appointed AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala in the 21-year-old disproportionate assets case. The Supreme Court set aside Karnataka High Court's order and convicted her for 4 years. The apex court has asked Sasikala to surrender immediately.
A bench of Justices P C Ghose and Amitava Roy pronounced the judgement today on a batch of appeals, including the one filed by Karnataka government against the High Court verdict acquitting prime accused Jayalalithaa and her close aide and now AIADMK chief Sasikala.
The two-judge bench directed Sasikala and the two relatives to surrender forthwith to the trial court in Bengaluru and serve the remaining part of four year jail term.
After today's development, Sasikala stands disqualified to take over as Tamil Nadu chief minister. Sasikala will be arrested and sent to jail after the Supreme Court's order. Sasikala will have to serve remaining three years in jail.
The apex court set aside the Karnataka High Court judgment of May 11, 2015 which had acquitted Sasikala and former chief minister late J Jayalalithaa in the Rs 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case.
Besides Jayalalithaa, Sasikala, and the latter's relatives, V N Sudhakaran and Elavarasi, were also acquitted in the assets case by the Karnataka High Court.
