In an interesting move Delhi Police have issued strict instructions to its security staff, especially the females, not to wear fancy dresses during any of Prime Minister's functions.
The instructions have been issued as it was observed that despite several warnings the staff reported to work in fancy and colourful outfits. Sources said these instructions have been passed on as it was noticed that women staff in particular were not adhering to the security dress code protocol. They were reporting to duties without proper uniform for VVIP functions including that of the current or former prime ministers.
The staff have been provided with proper uniforms by the department. They have now been asked to first report to the duty officer in the security unit for compliance prior to going for arrangement and marking their attendance. And that they should proceed after proper briefing to the function venue for performing their duties. If it is noticed that any security personnel comes to perform his/her duty without uniform or late on duty, then it will be viewed seriously and departmental action will be taken against those not following instructions.
Sources said lady officers have also been told to follow security protocol and carry weapons with them till the time their duty lasts. There were some complains that some security staff personnel stay in a hurry to deposit their weapons even before their duties get over.Often they are in a rush to leave before their duty hours.
It has also been directed that the security staff should report for shooting practices regularly. Presently they practice shooting of weapons on virtual shooting ranges but they have also been told to practice at the actual ranges. When asked to comment, senior officer with security department said it is a regular affair and these instructions are passed on ahead of Republic Day celebrations.
