South Western Railway officials have said two 16-coach Vande Bharat Sleeper trainsets have been commissioned for the proposed Bengaluru–Mumbai service. The rakes were manufactured by BEML under an Integral Coach Factory-led programme. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw officially announced in May that a Bengaluru–Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper service was expected to start soon.

The train is expected to operate overnight and cover the approximately 1,137-km journey in around 16 hours. That would make it significantly faster than dedicated services such as the Udyan Express and SMVT Bengaluru–LTT Mumbai Express, which take approximately 22–24 hours. The 16-hour timing remains a target until route trials and the final timetable are completed.

The proposed corridor travels through the Kalyana Karnataka region, covering areas around Raichur, Yadgir and Kalaburagi before continuing towards Maharashtra. Railway officials say the 1,137-km route is electrified and double-tracked, with many sections permitting speeds of up to 130 km/h. Exact commercial stoppages have not been announced.

The standard rake is expected to include 11 AC three-tier coaches, four AC two-tier coaches and one First AC coach. The overall trainset design accommodates approximately 823 passengers. Reports suggest a 3AC fare of around Rs 3,000 including meals, but Indian Railways has not issued a final fare notification.

The original ministerial approval referred to KSR Bengaluru and Mumbai CSMT. More recent statements from railway officials indicate that KSR Bengaluru and Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal are both being evaluated as the Bengaluru origin and maintenance point. Passengers should wait for the official timetable before treating either terminal as final.

A route trial is expected to measure the actual journey time, followed by speed-related assessment involving the Research Designs and Standards Organisation. The launch date, frequency, departure times, final stops, fare and booking commencement remain pending. Until these details appear through official railway channels, the train should be described as nearing launch—not already available for booking.
