Hyundai Bayon 2026: Underbody CNG tank, 1.5L petrol, CVT, ventilated seats — the complete spec guide before launch

Hyundai is bringing the Bayon-based crossover SUV to India by the end of 2026. It will rival the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Tata Nexon and Kia Carens. Most importantly, it will offer CNG as well as petrol — making it the first Hyundai model longer than 4 metres ever to get a CNG powertrain in India.

The Bayon has a boxy silhouette with a flat roofline — a deliberate departure from Hyundai's usual curved styling. Features include upright LED DRLs, rectangular headlamps, a redesigned grille, thick black body cladding, squared wheel arches, dual-tone ORVMs and a connected LED light bar at the rear.

The Bayon is expected to use the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine as the Hyundai Creta. The CNG version will also use the same engine, with an underbody CNG tank — similar to what Maruti already does with its models. Transmission: manual and CVT for petrol, manual and automatic for CNG.

Expected features: 10.25-inch touchscreen, fully digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, sunroof, ventilated and heated front seats, rear AC vents, auto-dimming IRVM and a full ADAS suite. These are premium-segment features offered in what is expected to be a sub-Rs 12 lakh car.

The Hyundai Bayon directly rivals the Maruti Suzuki Fronx (Rs 7.51–13.39 lakh), Tata Nexon (Rs 8.10–15.50 lakh) and Toyota Taisor (Rs 7.74–13.04 lakh). Its CNG option puts additional pressure on Fronx CNG (Rs 9.11 lakh base) — the current CNG crossover king of India.

Hyundai India is expected to launch the Bayon-based SUV by the end of 2026 — possibly around the festive season. The underbody CNG tank is a segment-first for Hyundai over 4 metres. A CVT for the CNG version would also make it the first Hyundai CNG car to offer an automatic transmission option.
