Mercedes-Benz VLE: World's first grand sedan is an 8-seat EV with 700+ KM range

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its all-electric VLE, calling it the world's first "Grand Sedan." It's a unique combination — the spacious comfort of a large MPV like the Innova, fused with the speed and handling of a classic Mercedes sedan.

The VLE packs a massive 115 kWh battery, with Mercedes claiming a range of over 700 kilometres on a full charge — enough for long-distance travel without a single stop for power.

The VLE consumes less than 20 kWh per 100 km — roughly equivalent to just 2 litres of diesel. Thanks to 800-volt fast-charging tech, just 15 minutes of charging adds 355 km of range.

The cabin feels as luxurious as a five-star hotel room. Eight adults can sit comfortably across three rows, with the car stretching 5,309mm in length — a true flagship-sized footprint.

The standard model features a "Roll and Go" system — seats mounted on small wheels that can be slid, locked, or even rolled out of the car like a suitcase. Pricier variants get app-controlled, electrically adjustable seats instead.

With all seats in place, boot space stands at 800 litres. Remove the rear manual seats, and it expands to a massive 4,078 litres — enough to shift household items. A larger 5,484mm model is planned for 2027.

The VLE runs on Mercedes' own MB.OS, updatable over-the-air without a workshop visit. Its generative AI-powered MBUX assistant understands complex requests and remembers preferences, paired with a 10.25-inch driver display and twin 14-inch screens.

A 7-degree rear-axle steering system lets this large car turn within just a 10.9-metre radius. Airmatic air suspension automatically adjusts ride height by up to 40mm, smoothing out bumps before passengers even feel them.
