The first 16-coach Vande Bharat Sleeper formation has 11 AC three-tier coaches, four AC two-tier coaches and one AC first-class coach. Indian Railways says the train accommodates around 823 passengers.

The train uses ergonomically designed berths with improved cushioning and better body support. Redesigned ladders make upper berths easier to reach, while advanced suspension reduces jerks, vibration and overnight fatigue.

Smaller bags can be placed on overhead racks or beneath berths, while designated areas near coach entrances accommodate larger suitcases. Passengers should still avoid blocking aisles, ladders, doors and emergency access.

  • 4/7

Food is included in the fare, according to the Railways’ launch briefing. The Howrah–Kamakhya service features regional cuisine, with Bengali dishes from the Kolkata side and Assamese flavours from the Guwahati side.

  • 5/7

Passengers get USB charging facilities for personal devices. Carry your own compatible cable and a fully charged power bank, because socket availability, permitted wattage and charging speed may differ from home chargers.

  • 6/7

Automatic plug doors and sealed gangways support safer movement between coaches. Spacious toilets, improved splash control, CCTV surveillance and Divyangjan-friendly spaces form part of the passenger-focused design.

The train has a design speed of 180kmph and an operating capability of up to 160kmph, subject to route conditions. Kavach, fire barriers, anti-climbers, emergency talk-back units and fire suppression strengthen safety.
