A hashtag trending on Twitter for most of Thursday was flooded with accusation that producers Yash Raj Films (YRF) have not been entirely truthful with the box-office figures of their latest blockbuster Sultan starring Salman Khan.
According to Salman fans who have been trending #YRFStopReducingSULTANFigures, the official collections declared by YRF till date are much lower than what has been reported by the trade magazines. According to various reactions on the hashtag, while the industry believes the Sultan is set to touch Rs 300 crore soon, the production house's estimate is far lower.
A section of fans has been harping on a conspiracy theory. The deal between Salman and YRF, they insist, is that the banner will have to give a bigger share of profits to Salman the moment the film crosses the Rs 300-crore mark.
Traditionally, big Banners such as YRF agree to hefty profit sharing margins when it comes to signing big superstars such as Salman, Shah Rukh or Aamir Khan, on the understanding that the star in question will rake in big bucks if the film manages to cross a certain figure at the box-office.
Meanwhile, Sultan continues to go strong at the box-office. After thrtee weeks, the film's collection is Rs 293.80 crore net, confirmed trade analyst Taran Adarsh. "#Sultan collected Rs 15.84 cr in Week 3, taking the 3-week total to Rs 293.80 cr. Will have to remain steady in Week 4 to reach Rs 300 cr mark," tweeted Adarsh.
