Buoyancy in tax revenues was a hallmark of the rapid economic growth between 2004 and 2008. The subsequent economic slowdown, a consequence of the global financial crisis, played spoilsport. Tax concessions to spur growth also hit revenue mop-up. However, collections - led by direct taxes - have once again started to gain momentum.
