Apple has partnered with e-commerce giant Flipkart to sell its iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in India starting October 7 in a move to expand its online availability.

The tie-up with Flipkart will mean the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will be available at the official launch price online and will carry the Apple warranty. The partnership will also be extended to Apple's older models.

Flipkart will directly source the iPhones from Apple for the first time instead of buying from third-party sellers.

This deal will give an edge to Flipkart to earn a higher profit margin on the sale of the iPhones over competitors like Amazon and Snapdeal who will have to rely on third party sellers.

On the other hand, Apple will not have to endure sharp discounts on its products like before. Flipkart is the biggest e-tailer in India and Apple will leverage this to its own benefit.

Flipkart will now have to sell the products at the official price decided by Apple, which would eventually stabilise the prices in the online space. Earlier, Apple products were subjected to absurd discounts.

Previously, Infibeam was the only authorised online reseller for Apple but it mainly dealt with the wholesale supply of Apple products. On the other hand, Flipkart will be the first online retailer to sell Apple products directly to consumers.

Prices for iPhone 7 start from Rs 60,000 for the 32GB variant and go up to Rs 80,000 for the 256GB variant. Prices for the iPhone 7 Plus start from Rs 72,000 for the 32GB variant, and go up to Rs 92,000 for the 256GB variant.

Ahead of the launch of new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, Apple slashed the prices for iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and iPhone SE at Rs. 50,000, Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 44,000 respectively.
