Telegram app restored on Apple App Store after disappearing briefly without explanation

Telegram was briefly removed from Apple's App Store without any explanation, raising questions about the sudden takedown and whether it was linked to regulatory or policy concerns. However, the messaging app has been restored for users, Telegram confirmed.
The app was unavailable earlier on Monday, with users accessing its App Store listing being met with a message stating, “The page you're looking for can't be found.” Checks also found that the application was not available on Apple’s marketplace at the time.
Telegram later confirmed the restoration in a statement but did not provide details on why the app was removed or what led to the temporary unavailability.
"Telegram has been restored on the App Store and should soon be available again for all users," the company said.
Apple has also issued a statement to Bloomberg, in which the tech giant said that it removed Telegram from the App Store after identifying content on the platform that violated its App Store policies. The company highlighted that the content was related to child sexual abuse material (CSAM), which is strictly prohibited under its guidelines.
"The app was subsequently restored after the developer promptly removed the content and banned the user who posted it," the statement said.
Telegram X account also shared a post saying, "Reports of my demise are greatly exaggerated," acknowledging the removal from the App Store.
"Telegram removal from App Store was not a first
In 2018, Apple previously removed the Telegram app from the App Store for content moderation concerns, and the similar concern in the latest temporary delisting has raised similar questions about the platform's compliance with the company's App Store policies.
Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, said the company added further safeguards after Apple alerted it to the issue, leading to the app's return to the App Store.
Recently, the platform faced a temporary ban in India amid allegations of the circulation of a NEET paper leak via its channels. Its founder has also faced criminal investigations abroad, adding to the scrutiny surrounding Telegram's moderation practices.
