Facebook's social network for enterprises, Facebook at Work, is expected to be launched in India in the next few months, but the service is already quite popular among Indian companies and about 20 companies here are beta testing it.
"Indian companies have been fastest in deploying Facebook at Work and several companies such as L&T Infotech, YES Bank, Godrej Industries and fast growing businesses like Delhivery and Zomato, have started using the service," Julien Codorniou, Director of Facebook at Work said on Tuesday, adding that India is one of Facebook at Work's top countries and they will start testing the solution with more companies.
"Rolling out Facebook at Work to companies in India is a significant milestone. As the workplace transforms, businesses want new ways for co-workers to collaborate effectively and be more productive. We are excited at the high rate of adoption globally and I look forward to working with all businesses in India," Codorniou added.
The social networking giant had started the beta testing for Facebook at Work last January and about 450 companies around the world are using it currently, while 60,000 have applied to be in the pilot, Facebook informed.
L&T Infotech was the first company to adopt Facebook at Work in India and now all 25,000 of its employees use the service to connect with each other at Work.
Other Indian companies that have deployed Facebook at Work are Paytm, Practo, Zomato, BookMyShow, ibibo, AskeMe, Urban Ladder, Girnarsoft, KartRocket, Edureka, eVidyaloka, Vision India Foundation, Landmark Group and Telenor.
Facebook at Work is quite to similar to Facebook and includes features like News Feed, Groups, Profile, Work Chat and Search. However, the professional version will be grey in colour and won't have advertisements and app activities like games.
Developed as a mobile-first solution, the service would include other interesting features such as language translation and would be completely separate from an individual's personal Facebook account.
Facebook at Work would also have its own Messenger app, called Work Chat and besides chat it would facilitate video and voice calls. The service is subscription-based and the companies will be charged only for monthly active users on the platform.
