US President Donald Trump held a rare dinner meeting with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei amid ongoing AI safety concerns.

On September 27, US President Donald Trump hosted Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei for dinner amid AI safety concerns and an ongoing legal dispute between Anthropic and the Trump administration over the company’s designation as a “supply chain risk” by the Pentagon. According to a CNBC report, the dinner is said to be the first one-on-one meeting between Amodei and Trump.
The meeting also comes at a time when Amodei along with other AI leaders are urging for AI slowdown and stricter guardrails for AI development. However, amid the debate, Trump has dismissed the idea of an AI slowdown and government-backed guardrails. In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote, AI only needs “STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!”
“The Trump Administration has stopped AI ‘people’ from doing bad, or potentially bad, ‘things,’ like Dario (Anthropic!), who is now pretending to be a “perfect little angel” - and we will continue to do so! We already have tremendous CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power over these companies!” Trump added.
Alongside a challenging relationship between Amodei and Trump, the executive's absence was also noticed at the Trump-Xi White House dinner, where several AI leaders, including Sam Altman, Tim Cook, Jensen Huang, and Elon Musk, among others, were present. It was reported that Amodei was also not part of the invite list, making his subsequent dinner with Trump particularly notable.
However, the details about the Trump-Amodei dinner remain under wraps, with neither side publicly disclosing what was discussed during the meeting or whether it signals a shift in their previously strained relationship.
