It is rather strange that in the world of Android, where you see hundreds of smartphones, finding the perfect phone can be so difficult. It is also in stark contrast to the world of Apple where the choice is always the latest iPhone.
But in the world of Android, each phone tends to focus on one or two things. There are very few that aim to give consumers everything in a way that makes sense. With its latest Nexus phones, Google hopes to break through this rut. The Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P bring to Android users a kind of refined experience that is difficult to find elsewhere.
MEET NEXUS 5X AND NEXUS 6P
Of the two new Nexus phones, the Nexus 5X, which is actually made by LG, is the lighter, smaller and cheaper phone. It is also a spiritual successor to the much-loved Nexus 5, which was launched in 2013. At a time when supersized phones are the norm, the Nexus 5X is refreshingly compact. It is slightly bigger than the iPhone 6 or the Nexus 5, but the increase is in the length and not in the width. That makes it comfortable to hold and it is easy to use.
One reason why the Nexus 5X is so light (140 gm) is because it uses a shell made of plastic. Now, it definitely doesn't look as premium or flashy as the iPhone 6S or the Galaxy S6 that are made of metal and glass, but it doesn't look all too shabby either. The rounded edges make it an attractive phone and the matte finish on the plastic means the Nexus 5X is a device that doesn't look gaudy.
If you are looking for the premium finish, you will have to move to the Nexus 6P, which has been made by Huawei. Just like other high-end phones, the Nexus 6P uses an all-aluminium body. The only bit that is not aluminium is the glass cover around the camera and a little bit of plastic strip on the bottom part of the back cover. As for the camera, the Nexus 6P has a small hump around the camera lens.
Although it looks bigger in the images, it's actually subtle and adds a unique element to the design of the phone. Unlike the Nexus 5X that has a smaller 5.2-inch screen, the Nexus 6P has a 5.7-inch screen. Even though the design is premium and looks really good, the Nexus 6P is a big phone. You will have to use two hands while browsing something on it.
Both the phones are wellendowed. The Nexus 5X uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, has 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. (The 32GB version is also available and is a more recommended purchase). The Nexus 6P uses a faster Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, has 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. (The 64GB version is also available.)
Both phones support only one SIM card and have no slots for a microSD card. One difference between the two phones is that the Nexus 6P has stereo speakers while the Nexus 5X has just one.
ALMOST PERFECT
Both the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P are fast phones and everything works well on them. Whether you are browsing the web, or watching FullHD videos or trying out the latest Batman game, the new Nexus phones would more than satisfy you with the performance they offer. One difference between the Nexus 6P and the Nexus 5X is that of these two, the smaller one runs cooler when pushed hard.
At Rs 24,500 (the current price of Nexus 5X) the LG-made Nexus is the best smartphone you can buy. At Rs 39,999, the Nexus 6P, meanwhile, is not only the best Android phone you can get but also probably the best phone you can buy. After all, this is the first phone that combines a great camera, decent hardware and the fantastic Android Marshmallow in one package.
