Biography

Founded in 1897 by Ardeshir Godrej with his invention of a springless lock, the Godrej Group grew into one of India’s most trusted conglomerates. His brother Pirojsha expanded into safes, appliances, and soaps. Today, the group is led by Adi, Nadir, and Jamshyd Godrej, with the fourth generation—Nisaba and Pirojsha Adi Godrej—taking active roles. Businesses span FMCG, chemicals, real estate, engineering, and agribusiness. Godrej Consumer Products is a market leader in home and personal care, while Godrej Properties dominates premium real estate. With a combined net worth above $16 billion, the family is deeply committed to sustainability, exemplified by their preservation of a 1,700-acre mangrove forest in Mumbai. Through Godrej Trusts, they fund education, women’s empowerment, and urban renewal. Adi Godrej, recipient of the Padma Bhushan, is widely respected for ethical leadership. Globally, the group has won awards for corporate governance, green innovation, and social responsibility.
