Finance Minister Arun Jaitley gave relief to small tax payers,
nudged the affluent to shell out more while focusing on the rural
economy with much higher fiscal outlays.
Meanwhile, ceiling of tax rebate for tax payers with up to Rs 5 lakh
annual income is proposed to be raised to Rs 5,000 from Rs 2,000
currently. This relief will Rs 3,000 per annum which will benefit 1
crore tax payers.
Government proposed Krishi Kalyan Cess and Infrastructure Cess while deciding to do away with as many as 13 cesses which do not yield more than Rs 50 crore in a year.
The Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday announced a new amnesty
scheme for those having unaccounted money to come clean by paying 45
percent of their undisclosed asset.
As a result of a new levy, Krishi Kalyan cess, on all services, activities including eating out, watching movies in theaters and payment of bills, will also become more expensive.
