When Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg visited India

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's India's visit comes on the heels of Prime Minister Modi's visit to Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park where he became the first head of state to visit Facebook.

Zuckerberg during his visit to Tajmahal. On October 28, 2015, Zuckerberg hosted a townhall Q&A session in IIT Delhi. Zuckerberg said, "When you have a mission to connect a billion people, you can't do it without India."

Connecting 50 million people is a big deal. Internet.org is available in 24 countries. In India, almost a million people have come online, saidZuckerberg. "We want to get the next billion people online and that's why I am here," said Zuckerberg.

"Research has shown by providing access to the Internet 1 person gets a new job and 1 person gets lifted from poverty," said Zuckerberg. India is Facebook's second largest community. It has more than 130 million users, Zuckerberg added.

"You can't have the full internet for free. But we have this free basics programme where content can be provided and it will be zero rated and the operator doesn't take a hit," said Zuckerberg. 

"We have made investments in introducing new types of schools in Africa, hope to bring them to India too," Zuckerberg said.
