Sanjay Sinha
Fund Manager, SBI Mutual Funds

Investment mantra: Normally looks for a sustainable business run by a management which respects shareholders' value.
Past positions: Moved from UTI Mutual Fund to SBI Mutual Fund about a year ago.
Best calls: Crompton Greaves, i-flex, IVRCL, Lupin, Petronet LNG and Shree Cement.
Calls that didn't work: Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers.
Top picks right now: Engineering, auto ancillaries, cement.
Advice to small investors: Keep rebalancing your asset allocation at different life stages. Do not try to time the market. Choose a fund wisely, and not only because it has shown spectacular performance over the last few weeks.
Worst mistake small investors can make: Start chasing equity only when the markets become hot.
The one thing they must never forget: Equities deliver a steady return over the long term.
