1. Don’t wear roomy suits as they will do your girth no favour. Instead, go for a fitted three-button suit look. Keep your jacket buttoned (middle button only), unless you’re sitting down.
2. Don’t wear slim ties. The trick is for your tie to be in proportion with your torso.
3. Wear a pocket square to divert attention away from your weight.
4. Keep your shirt simple, non-fussy and elegant. Avoid plaids and checks.
5. While plaited trousers are always good, you can also wear flat-front trousers. They are tailored to be comfortable.
Ties: You can carry off large ties with aplomb. Wear them as they make you look much more compact.
Shoes: Go for shoes with a prominent sole. It helps add authority to go with your weight, without accentuating it.
Suspenders: Avoid having to choose between strapping your pants above or below your belly; wear suspenders and float your waist.
