I am planning to buy the Samsung Galaxy Ace. Please give me a detailed review about it.You could even suggest me a phone for a maximum of Rs 16,000. It should be an Android smartphone

Q: I plan to buy a BSNL BB wireless connection but learned that the modem has to be sourced from the open market. As I have to buy the modem from the market, kindly suggest the best, long lasting, powerful and cheapest modem.

Ashok A Deshpande , on email

G&G: Usually BSNL supplies its own wireless modem with a connection. You can buy the Netgear WGR614 available for Rs 2,000. Remember to put a non-crackable password, something that contains both numbers and alphabets.

Q: My mother bought a new iPod touch a few days back for her birthday recently and she asked me to download a lot of songs in it. I down loaded iTunes and tried downloading 2245 songs form her old music cd's and dvd's but once i checked the music library, it only managed to download 510 songs from Itunes which then keeps on showing errors. Is there a way to fix this?

Pranav Sivaraman, on email

G&G: It's possible some songs may be protected by codes. Try out this official process. While transferring songs from CDs to iTunes, iTunes encode content imported from CDs in ACC format at 128 kbps as it provides high quality sound at small files. For content in MP3, WAV, AIFF or Apple Lossless format, you can follow the below mentioned steps to convert into the desired format. When converting from a compressed to uncompressed file format (for example, from MP3 to AIFF) you shouldn't notice any reduction in sound quality. However, when converting between compressed formats (for example MP3 and AAC), you may notice a reduction in the sound quality. For the best results, if you want your music encoded in a different file format, you should import the music again from the original source using the new encoding format. To convert a song's file format: 1. Open iTunes Preferences. Windows: Choose Edit > Preferences. Mac: Choose iTunes > Preferences. 2. Click the General button, then click the Importing Settings button in the second section of the window. 3. From the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the encoding format that you want to convert the song to, then click OK to save the settings. 4. Select one or more songs in your library, then from the Advanced menu, choose one of the following. Note: Some purchased songs are encoded using a protected AAC format that prevents them from being converted.

Q: I was planning to buy the Motorola Defy which released in January this year with an upgraded Android 2.2. Its present price is around Rs 13,999. But to my amazement, Motorola launched the Defy+ with better features on August 15, 2011. Could you tell me when the Defy+ is launching in India and what would be its expected price? Please reply soon.

Sivaram P, on email

G&G: As mentioned Motorola has just announced Defy+ but it has not been launch in the international market. The release is expected to be some time soon. Also, historically, Motorola hasn't been very quick in bringing its Android offerings to India. Motorola has been silent about its Android phones for some time now and is expected to launch a few smartphones soon but we don't have any confirmed and updated information on Defy+ at this time.

Q: Please tell me which is the better hand held console, the PSP or the 3DS Nintendo. Also help me with the best budget ink jet printer for home use from initial and running cost point of view. How about the Pixma MP 258 or 287?

M A Khan, on email

For a casual game in India, perhaps the PSP is a better option. You must remember that 3DS, though an advanced 3D device, does not have an official presence in India and this has its own set of hassles. As for a printer, we can recommend the latest from Epson, the Epson L100, which retails at ` 8999. It has extra large ink cartridges that give you more prints in both black and colour.

Q: I am writing this letter for your advice. I am planning to buy the Samsung Galaxy Ace. Please give me a detailed review about it.You could even suggest me a phone for a maximum of Rs 16,000. It should be an Android smartphone; have a good screen, have good processing speed, also have a good camera and GPS/A-GPS, and be 3G enabled.

Pranav Sivaraman, on email

G&G: The Samsung Galaxy Ace is a good device but the touch interface isn't really impressive. Instead, we would advise you to go in for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro. It has the latest version of Android, v2.3. It has a 3-inch capacitive touch display and is accompanied by a smooth slide-out QWERTY keypad. It is powered by 1GHz processor along with 512MB RAM. Sony Ericsson phones have good cameras and this phone has a 5 MP sensor with LED flash that captures good images. It is priced close to  Rs 15,000. Other phones worth considering is the HTC Wildfire S. Although it has a lower processor with 3.2-inch touch display, it is a good performer.
