It seeks to provide long-term capital appreciation by investing in high-growth companies. This makes it one for the core portfolio. It has been known to provide good downside protection and in 2008, then fund manager Prashant Jain accomplished it without plunging into large caps or resorting to aggressive cash calls.
"The focus on value, and not on direction of price movement, resulted in the fund being fully invested in 2008-9 when the markets had crashed," he says.
