The new breed of affordable Android smartphones is all the same. And this is why you will see more manufacturers try to add differentiators to their products.

Lava's latest Iris 504Q has specs that are very common these days in phablets. So it tries to stay ahead by adding a unique gesture control feature. You can capture an image, flip through the gallery or change the sound track by just waving your hand on front of the phone. While Samsung's Galaxy S4 has similar features, on Sony Ercisson's 2008 model Z555 you could mute a call or put the alarm on snooze mode with a wave.

The phone also has a 1280x700p IPS display with great viewing angles. The hardware quality has improved as the 504Q doesn't feel too broad or heavy to hold. The Iris 504Q offers the stock Android interface and we found it to be very fast. However, it comes with only 4GB internal storage, of which only 1.7GB is available for use. Even with fancy features turned off, the 504Q failed to last us a day and that too with only one SIM slot in use.
