Review: Micromax A50

Among the best Android smartphones at this price point-with an intelligent voice assistant.

MICROMAX A50
Price: Rs 5,000
Specs: Android v2.3; 3-inch capacitive display; 650MHz processor; 32GB expandable; Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth; 2 MP camera; 1200 mAh battery.

After coming up with a dual-core Android smartphone, Micromax has added yet another feather to its Android cap. The A50 is an affordable dual-SIM GSM Android smartphone with 650MHz processor, priced economically at Rs 5,000.

NOKIA LUNA
The new Bluetooth headset accessory from Nokia is all about good looks. Available in different colours, the headset is accompanied by a pebble-shaped charging dock with a universal charging port. Along with Bluetooth, the headset is NFC enabled and should pair with NFC phones with a single tap. But wearing the headset is not comfortable as it can fall off anytime. Also, the single control key is just like a small dot that can be used to answer the calls and redial the last one. The Nokia Luna is priced expensively at Rs 3,500.
The A50 has a white plastic body with a thin metal bezel running between the front and back panels. The display isn't very bright, but considering the price tag, we are not cribbing. Running the Android v2.3, the A50 managed to fetch emails, download apps and even browse the web without much difficulty.

Surprisingly, Micromax has managed to add an artificial intelligence voice assistant software named Aisha.

This works exactly like the iPhone's Siri. When we enquired about the weather, it fetched the temperature using network data. Similarly, it launched Google Maps when we asked for coffee shops nearby. And Aisha easily understood Indian English! The A50 has a 2MP camera that captured just about average images. Other features include FM radio, wireless keyboard and sound recorder.
