Philips Battery Sense (iOS)
This utility app from Philips helps keep an eye on the battery status of iOS devices . The app measures the current charge and shows what functions can be used for how long. The app factors in commonly used activities such as Internet calling, Internet use, FaceTime, ebook reading, video playback, audio playback, game play, standby time and charge time. Tapping on the battery icon also gets suggestion on how some basic setting changes can increase the battery life. Works smoothly on iPhone and iPod.

Masala Pedia (Windows Phone, iOS)
Love cooking but not sure about the English names of spices mentioned in the cook book or online recipes? Download Masala Pedia, an app specially designed for Windows Phone platform. The first column has the English names of spices and the next one displays the Hindi names of the same. Although listed alphabetically, you can go for a quick search of a specific spice. The top half of the screen displays the visual of the spice while the bottom half shows the name and the list one can scroll through.

Tabla (Android)
This is a fun music app for Android smartphones. Available free of cost, launching the app displays two tablas on the screen. Tapping on the tablas generates a sound that is close to the real-life tabla sounds. There is also a Tanpura tab that can be played in the background while playing a tabla. It can be used by both, trained tabla users as well as those who have no knowledge about music. A fun app to test your skills.

KBC 2012 Android
This is not the official app for the famous game show Kaun Banega Crorepati but offers a simlar experience over the smartphone. Launching the app plays the KBC tune, followed by an advertisement. Cancel the ad and you are ready to play the game. KBC 2012 has a side column that displays the 15 levels and the money you can win by answering correctly. The rest of the screen displays the question and the four options from which one has to choose the response. Every correct answer is followed by applause. But with one wrong answer the game comes to an end. Just like the original game, there are lifelines too-change the question, 50:50 and audience poll. A great app to test your general knowledge.
