I read your cover on moving from employment to entrepreneurship (
Going Solo, May 2013) with great interest. I wish to quit my job with a foreign bank and start a consultancy outfit. I have been hesitant because private consultancy is a very competitive segment. The several success stories featured, especially young entrepreneurs, have helped me put my case in perspective. I am in my early 30s and I believe I have the time to take the risk and see if I can make a successful transition to having a business of my own. If it does not work out, I know there is always the option of getting a job considering my qualifications and experience.

The story on the virtual currency Bitcoins (
Paying in a Different Coin, May 2013) was fascinating. It's a unique phenomenon and a unique investment opportunity. The concept was explained quite lucidly, just as well as the risks involved in investing in Bitcoins. I think investing in unregulated instruments must be done with great caution. As was explained, it is an avenue prone to volatility and has seen bizarre fluctuations in the price. Apart from this obvious risk, there is also the possibility that regulators might intervene and regulate transactions, despite it being designed to make regulation by any single entity impossible. This might have an impact on its prices in the future.

I was planning to buy a house when I read your story on resale properties (
Striking a Good Deal, May 2013). I think there are several advantages of buying an apartment or a house that is complete. One, you know what you are getting and, two, you will not be stuck with delays, which is very common these days. However, such properties are always at a premium compared with the ones that are under construction and may not be affordable to many potential buyers, including me. Even so, I am now also checking the market for a resale property that is within my budget, even if it a little away from the more favoured locations.

The article on using online forums to air consumer grievances (
Seeking Relief Online, May 2013) was an informative read. Very often consumers feel like they're banging their heads against a brick wall when asking for redressal. Help comes so rarely. The many layers of representatives to deal with is in itself a deterrent to pursuing a matter and I believe the worst offenders are companies that offer financial services.
