Money Today has constantly endeavoured to bring stories that can help you save and spend smartly. You can also save and drive a hard bargain if you conduct your own survey of product prices at different vendors/locations before buying.

Your story on discounted brands (Big Brands for Sale) was very timely as cost-cutting is becoming the need of the hour. While it is a good opportunity to pick up expensive brands, it will be helpful if you could provide information on the discounts available in mid-segment products and services.

In your story on buying property in foreign locations (Zeroing in on a Second Home, Abroad), you had stated that some banks like HSBC give a loan against property in India, which can be transferred to a designated country to buy property there. However, when I approached the HSBC Bank in Gurgaon, they told me that they had no such scheme. I want to buy property in Canada. Can you please clarify whether such a loan is provided by the bank?
— Virender S. Tanwar, Gurgaon

The HSBC Bank offers a loan against property only in the following locations: Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, New Delhi, Jaipur and Chandigarh. You can check with the main branch of the bank in any of these cities. The interest rate on such loans is 14-16%.

Thanks for showing that the people of India do not cower before terrorists and roll up their sleeves to get back to work. The story on the negligible effect on the Sensex of the repeated terror attacks clearly shows the resilient spirit of Indians. (Taking Stock). Also, the story on the new gadgets to be available in 2009 was fun to read. It’s a pity though that most of these gadgets will take a long time to reach India.

In the face of terrorism, it is important to not let fear cripple you as also to be more alert about your surroundings. We are glad that you liked the story on the forthcoming gadgets, but you might not have to wait for long to acquire some of these. Nowadays, most gadgets are available online as soon as they are launched.
