With the advent of pico projectors, that big picture is well within a regular home's means. But what do you look for when you are searching for such a projector? Obviously, the portability of the
projector is a big factor. Then you would probably plump for ease of use. Maybe, the life of the projector lamp is important to you too.
And, of course, don't forget the connectivity options. No use bringing home a machine and then realising that it will only project images from select sources. But more than anything else, you would probably want the picture on the wall to be of high quality. A bit too much of an ask if you wanted all these and more? Not if you consider BenQ's latest, the GP10.
If you want to see movies, pictures or other stuff stored in your USB pen drive or an SD card, the whole process is as easy as plug and play. And if you think this ease implies compromise somewhere, you'd be surprised to see the crispness on display.
We played a short clip from Titanic 3D and the eyes of Leo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet stared back from the wall in all their blue-green clarity. Besides, seeing media stored on your laptop or projecting the movie from your DVD player or TV is but a matter of attaching the HDMI cable and seeing the 720p resolution picture. You have wireless options too, so you should be happy to bring home this 1.5 kg projector that has the dimensions of a medium-sized dictionary.
The GP 10's lamp is rated for 30,000 hours and since it uses LED technology, it is sparing in energy consumption. Yet it has 550 ANSI lumen brightness, which means you get bright pictures (but flexibility too since you have the usual choices of bright, cinema, standard, gaming brightness levels). Its short-throw capabilities would give you a 2-ft picture from as close as half a metre away.
The one setback to the GP10 is its audio. It comes with two in-built 3W stereo speakers, but for a picture that reaches a diagonal maximum of 160 inches, you would find the sound anaemic. Yoke it to a proper noise maker and you are ready for a theatre-at-home experience.
