On paper, the new palm-sized projector from BenQ, the Joybee GP2 has a number of of positives-an iPhone/iPod dock, a host of connectivity options and an LED light source. However, the GP2 is not a great looker. Like other compact projectors, this one too has a plastic body in black and white. In fact, the glossy top is a finger-print magnet. The touch keys laid out in a circle look stylish though.
But it is with an iPhone docked in that the projector changes character. The GP2 played videos and images on board our iPod, while charging it all the while. However, this doesn't mean the unit is good only for iOS devices. There is a USB port, mini-HDMI port, mini-USB port, card reader and composite ports for added connectivity options. The GP2 also scores okay when it comes to actual projection. The 200 ANSI lumen LED lamp is not the most powerful and the images, though clear, were not very bright.
The maximum projection is about 160 inches diagonally, but the sound is not up to the mark for that image size. Compared to projectors that heat up too much, the GP2 remained cool. The unit is lightweight and portable.
BAG IT OR JUNK IT? A fully connected LED projector at a decent price.
