The
Garmin Nuvi 40 LM has a fine, solid build, a good feature for any navigator. The 4.3-inch touch display is very responsive and better than the Indian makes. Unlike
MapmyIndia navigators which have options for maps, images, music, video, etc, Garmin focuses on navigation. Turning on the PND displays the 'where to' option and view map along with volume and settings option. Under a clear sky it takes a few seconds to build a connection. The maps, powered by Navteq, offer a wide coverage of Indian cities. They have a built-in house search feature. Though many house numbers were missing, we were able to at least reach nearby address.
Keying in locations was a simple task as the search is intuitive and starts displaying options after the first few characters. The device promptly recalculated the route when we took a wrong turn. And thankfully for Indian buyers, the turn-by-turn voice guidance is available in Hindi too. Besides, Garmin offers free lifetime support for the maps onboard. But the battery back up is for a mere two hours and we had to keep it connected to the car charger on a long drive.
BAG IT OR JUNK IT? Better than most Indian options.
