-Looks similar to its predecessor
-Front grill speakers on top and bottom
The new 7-inch tablet from
Asus continues to be called the
Asus Fonepad. At first sight, the 7-inch tablet looks similar to its predecessor. But when examined closely, one finds there is a dual front speaker grill on the top and the bottom of the screen. It has a non-removable back. As the tablet supports 3G calling, the SIM slot placed on the side panel is accessible with the pin (added in the box). The SIM tray feels plastically and flimsy. The power key, volume controls are placed on the right edge.
Accompanying these controls is a memory card slot, which isn't covered. So there are chances that by mistake you will end up losing your memory card. The screen resolution at 1280 x 800p resolution that lacks clarity. On the software front, this FonePad runs on Android v4.2 and offers a neat interface. This is powered by an Intel Chipset - Intel Atom Z2560 dual core processor clocked at 1.6GHz and paired with 1GB RAM. The performance of the tablet was impressive - there wasn't any lag in the heavy graphics games.
The tablet worked smoothly over Wi-Fi as well as 3G connectivity. Unlike the earlier variant thdat had a 3MP rear camera, this one comes with a 5MP camera that captures decent images. The battery backup is good.
Bag it or junk it: A decent tablet overall.
