Bag It Or Junk It? Definitely worth a look

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 was a huge hit among celebrities and commoners across the world and was, by general acclaim, the tablet considered the nearest competitor to Apple's iPad. Now Samsung has brought in the second wave of Galaxy tablets. These are lighter, slimmer and sexier than before. We tested the 8.9 inch sibling of the new tablet and found it continues the successful DNA of the Galaxy Tabs.

The Looks
Like the 7 incher, the 8.9er is also dressed in all white. Complementing this pearly glow is a silver band around the tablet. There are a minimal set of physical buttons on the Tab. Only the power and volume button reside on the sides, the rest of the navigation and features are controlled via the bright screen. This tablet is 0.33 inches thin, which Samsung claims is the thinnest among all tablets. And it hardly bothers the weighing machines at less than half a kilogram.

The Working
Galaxy Tab 8.9 works on a modified version of Honeycomb Android OS version 3.1. There are five home screens which have a couple of really good widgets. These include the Social Hub for social networking, E-mail app for easy emailing and four website bookmarks to instantly take you to the most commonly visited websites. GPS and Google maps are also there. More widgets can be added, or deleted, quite easily. To power this tablet, Samsung has put in a 1 GHz Arm processor on the Tegra 2 platform. Teaming up is a1 GB RAM. The screen is quick to respond and there is no jerky or erratic screen behaviour. The Tab can play HD movies in full glory. The screen does justice to any hi-def content. Just as the speakers do for the sound. They are quite loud for both music and movies. The Galaxy Tab comes with a SIM slot for 3G services, and has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity in addition.

Final Words
Samsung has got another winner. The Galaxy Tab 8.9 has the hot looks that the current generation wants. It even sports a 3.2 MP camera that can click very good shots. It has a camera in the front for video chatting. Navigation is quick and easy and one can do so much more with the hundreds of applications available on the Android Market Place store. This tablet is surely a contender for the top ranks in its segment.
