Samsung's ES455k tries hard to be the home theatre system which can actually bring the cinemas home. The straight line design is stylish and makes it gel with almost any surroundings. This 5.1 channel system consists of two floor-standing surround speakers along with regular set of speakers and sub-woofer. A DVD player has also been included in the pack. Easy to set up, the system comes with an accessory that can turn the surround speakers into a sound bar. Plus, there is the option of karaoke and record to thumb drive on the DVD player.

Al this is good, but the sound output, though loud, lacks clarity that a surround sound system should offer. Also, at a time when most of us would be using the home theatre with a Full HD flat panel TV, the DVD player does not support HD resolution or sound. Forget about Full HD videos, the DVD player could not play videos at 800 x 600 resolution from the thumb drive. The company claims the unit supports 1080p video upscale, but this is only through a DVD. Considering HD is almost becoming the standard, having a non-HD DVD player just does not make any sense. Another glitch is the fact that you need an optical cable to connect the TV to the home theatre.

BAG IT OR JUNK IT? Not worth it; buy an HTS with Blu-Ray instead.
