SANDISK EXTREME USB 64GB
Price: Rs 5,189
We have been seeing USB 3.0 ports in laptops for quite some time now. But it is only recently that the next generation USB devices actually started coming to the market. We tested the Sandisk Extreme 64GB USB pen drive to see the speed difference-USB 3.0 is supposed to be 10 times faster than its predecessor with transfer speeds of up to 190 MB/s. We first copied a 1.5 GB file to the pen using a Bluetooth 2.0 port on our PC. That took about 80 seconds, which we thought was a bit faster than regular.
But when we copied the same file to a new laptop through a USB 3.0 port the task was over in 25 seconds. Maybe not 10x faster, but it was still very fast. But then USB drives usually slowdown when you are copying multiple files. We copied four files totaling 3.2 GB to the drive from the PC in 3 minutes. The same set of files copied to the laptop in just 30 seconds. And this is where USB 3.0 is really going to make a difference. If you have a new laptop or computer, USB 3.0 is the port tagged in blue. The USB 3.0-enabled SanDisk Extreme USB drive comes in 16 and 64 GB versions.
BAG IT OR JUNK IT? The speed is really worth the extra bucks.
