In an unprecedented overture, China has said that as India’s largest neighbour, the two countries should be partners that contribute to each other's success. Addressing a press conference, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said, “China-India relations have made positive strides over the past year. The successful meeting between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kazan last October provided strategic guidance for the improvement and development of the bilateral ties”, adding that, “China always believes that the two should be partners that contribute to each other's success. A cooperative pas de deux of the dragon and the elephant is the only right choice for both sides. As the two largest developing countries, China and India have a shared task to accelerate our countries' development and revitalization.” The olive branch is being extended even as the US targets China with additional tariffs and the two nations slap restrictions on trade with each other. India and China have had tense relations since the Galwan flare-up in which several Indian soldiers were martyred.
