Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw addressed the Lok Sabha on Friday, presenting data to emphasize the achievements of the BJP-led NDA government in railway recruitment. He revealed that over the past decade, the NDA government has recruited approximately 100,000 more railway employees compared to the previous decade under the UPA government. Specifically, during the UPA's tenure from 2004 to 2014, 411,000 railway positions were filled, while the NDA government from 2014 to 2024 has increased this number to 502,000. Vaishnaw also highlighted the implementation of an annual recruitment calendar for the railways, a long-standing demand. This calendar, introduced in January 2024, ensures that recruitment notifications are issued quarterly—January, April, July, and October. Currently, 40,565 vacancies are advertised, reflecting the government's commitment to timely and transparent recruitment processes. Additionally, Vaishnaw pointed out that the ratio of general coaches to AC coaches remains nearly 2:1, underscoring a balanced approach to passenger amenities.
