India Today’s Geeta Mohan spoke with American economist Jeffrey Sachs on the Greenland controversy and the global response to US President Donald Trump’s remarks. Sachs said many countries are reluctant to speak out, fearing they could be targeted next. He described Europe as heavily dependent on the US for security, calling it ironic that Washington now poses a greater threat than Russia. Sachs noted that Trump’s comments about taking over Greenland, a Danish territory, violate international law. While China, Russia, Brazil and Mexico have spoken out strongly, he said many global leaders are choosing silence to avoid provoking Washington.
