India has taken a major step towards global technological leadership as the Global AI Impact Summit is hosted in the country, following earlier editions in the UK, South Korea and France. Speaking at the Digifest TIE Global Summit 2026, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav highlighted how Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision has positioned India as a leading technology hub. In the run-up to the summit, AI Regional Summits have been organised across states, similar to the G20 outreach model, with recent events held in Meghalaya, Odisha and Rajasthan. The Rajasthan summit saw the launch of the state’s AI Impact Policy along with a large-scale skilling initiative aimed at empowering youth and small entrepreneurs. The programme targets training lakhs of young Indians in AI within a year, enabling them to apply advanced technology in daily life and business. As part of India’s AI Mission, 38,000 AI GPUs have been made available at affordable costs, while nearly $70 billion is being invested in AI, particularly in data centre infrastructure. With innovation, skilling and democratised access to technology, India is strengthening its position in the global AI ecosystem.
