Train services across Northern India have been disrupted due to dense fog and low visibility, with around 50 trains delayed while arriving in Delhi. Addressing the situation, Northern Railways Chief Public Relations Officer Himanshu Shekhar emphasised that passenger safety remains the top priority during foggy conditions. He highlighted that extensive counselling and training have been conducted for frontline staff, including loco pilots, line guards and gatemen, to ensure safe operations during reduced visibility. Northern Railways has introduced multiple fog-related safety measures, including clear line markings ahead of every signal and the deployment of fog safety devices equipped with audio alarm systems for loco pilots. To improve passenger convenience, real-time train delay and arrival information systems are being actively used by travellers. Additional steps such as pre-watering of trains, increased ration supply in pantry cars, more frequent platform cleaning, hourly monitoring of water taps and 24-hour operation of food stalls at stations have also been implemented to enhance passenger comfort during delays.
