Auto firm Mahindra and Mahindra launched a compact SUV 'KUV1OO', targeted at the first-time car buyers and youth, with a starting price tag of Rs 4.42 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune).
The SUV launch also marks the company's debut into the petrol segment. The SUV is expected to compete with premium hatchbacks such as Maruti Suzuki's Swift and Hyundai's Grand i10, with a price range of Rs 4.42 lakh to Rs 6.76 lakh.
The petrol engine debuting on the car is a 1198 cc, 1.2 litre 'mfalcon' engine delivering an 82bhp of power. The diesel variant also uses a 1,198 cc engine, which has also been developed anew.
On the fuel economy front, the KUV1OO's diesel engine delivers 25.32 kms a litre (which the company claimed is the highest), while the petrol engine will give 18.15 kms.
The car is directed towards families as well and has an option to seat six people, with three people each at the front and rear seats. On the safety front, all the variants come with Anti-Braking System and EBD as a standard fitment, while dual airbags can be availed in the base variant as well.
