At the Adani_BTIndia@100 Summit, Rahul Kanwal, Executive Director of Business Today, engaged in a detailed discussion with Prof. Vikram Gandhi, Senior Lecturer at Harvard Business School, about the major hurdles in advancing green technologies. Prof. Gandhi highlighted the significant challenge of high capital expenditure (CapEx) for green technologies, such as green steel and cement, which often comes at a premium compared to fossil fuel-based products. He emphasized that consumer willingness to pay higher prices for these green alternatives remains a barrier. Drawing from research on U.S. and European companies, Prof. Gandhi noted that those who made substantial early investments in green technologies have seen higher valuations and better long-term performance compared to those who delayed the transition. He pointed out that proactive companies not only benefit from evolving regulations and incentive systems but also achieve superior market valuations. Prof. Gandhi stressed the importance of creating an ecosystem that supports initial green investments, acknowledging that while green premiums are not universally accepted, the transition to sustainable practices is essential for future growth and regulatory compliance.
