2G spectrum scam: ED joins CBI in searches

The agencies visited the house of alleged hawala operator Mahesh Jain in New Delhi, apart from searching the house and offices of Niira Radia and few others early in the day.

2G spectrum scam: ED joins CBI in searches
Widening the probe in the 2G spectrum scam, the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday joined the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in conducting searches in connection with the case and visited the house of alleged hawala operator Mahesh Jain in New Delhi.

Official sources said a team of the Directorate visited the house in New Friends Colony area. The ED team may also visit some other locations where the CBI was conducting searches, th source added. The CBI was carrying out raids in Tamil Nadu and Delhi.

Sources said Jain's name had figured during investigations into the 2G scam and that the Directorate has found Mahesh and his brother Alok Jain alias Bobby allegedly registered companies as fronts.

CBI sleuths searched the office and residential premises of corporate lobbyist Niira Radia, former Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Chairman Pradip Baijal and a Chennai NGO with which DMK MP Kanimozhi is linked in a crackdown in the national capital and in several places in Tamil Nadu in connection with the scam.

Radia was earlier questioned by ED in connection with its probe.
