I must confess that when I got my hands on
Spec Ops The Line, I thought here comes another thirdperson shooter
title which will join the unending list of forgetful games. But I am happy to say that the game made me eat my words with its strong game play and brilliant graphics. The stage is set with severe sand storms creating havoc and bringing the glittering metropolis of Dubai to its knees. In the chaos and destruction all around, you find that Colonel Conrad's 33rd Infantry Division had ignored evacuation orders and stayed back to help the locals. The Battalion had subsequently disappeared in the storm. Now it's up to the Delta Force Bravo team-Captain Walker (that's you), Lugo and Adams-to rescue Conrad and his boys and help the locals. But nothing is ever so simple when this rescue mission quickly turns into a blood bath-the twist here is that Conrad and his team have gone rogue. So not only do you end up fighting the challenging weather conditions and the insurgents but also your former US Army colleagues.
In terms of
graphics, destruction never looked so artistic and beautiful. The dust haze and the battered buildings have been portrayed to perfection. The game itself is simple: shoot, duck and make sure your two team mates stay alive. But the simplicity of this game is a double-edged sword as it becomes repetitive and predictable.
A feature in this game which is worth mentioning is that you have to take some tough decisions like punishing a father for stealing food or an American soldier caught indulging in criminal activity. This adds some realism to the game as nothing in life is ever black and white. There are some gameplay moments that will leave you all "wow"-like when there is a head shot, you can get to admire your shot in slow motion.
Spec Ops: The Line will keep will keep you glued to the screen but it's not an iconic game that you will want to play again and again as it lacks new options.
