WHO SHOULD INVEST IN IT?
Axis Long Term Equity has a diversified portfolio of companies with sustainable business models. The fund tries to capitalise on growth opportunities in Indian markets. While the fund is partial to large-cap stocks, exposure to mid-cap stocks can go up to 25-30% of the portfolio. Investments in individual stocks is restricted to less than 5% and the fund does not choose heavy exposure to either sectors or stocks. The fund has weathered market volatility very well since inception in 2009. Maintaining a large-cap allocation also helps the fund check market falls and benefit from a turnaround. It's a good choice to save tax and create wealth in the long term.
MEET THE FUND MANAGERFund manager Jinesh Gopani has been at the helm since April 2011. "We only buy (stocks of) bluechip firms, without worrying about their short-term implications. Also, since the money is locked-in, (the fund) allows up to 50% investment in mid-cap stocks. The fund adopts strategies to create wealth in the long term," he says.
