When Mumbai-based Pankaj and Kim Sharma realised that people with 24x7 lives had no time to unwind, they launched Power Spa, a mobile service that offers quick therapies at home or office, even at parties.

How did you zero in on mobile spas?
My wife and I were at a mall one day when we realised we didn’t have the time or luxury to relax and rejuvenate. That’s when we thought of mobile spas, of bringing a quick spa experience to people who don’t have the time to go for one. Power Spa is based on the concept of ‘power nap’—fast, but at the same time, destressing.

What’s the USP of Power Spa?
It can be provided anywhere, in offices, at events and exhibitions, even parties. We offer dry therapies like foot and hand reflexology, massages for the back, neck and shoulders, and all these can be customised. We are also setting up boutique spas in malls, multiplexes and food courts. The idea is to provide quick therapies in a limited space where people can walk in and relax, even if it’s for 10-15 minutes.

What are the charges?
At our retail outlets, guests can avail of a 10-15 minute therapy for Rs 300-350. Other charges depend on customisation.

How has the response been?
Fabulous. We have clients from Kingfisher Airlines, HSBC and Colgate Palmolive, among others. In the first three months of this year, our revenues were the same as that for the entire last year—Rs 50 lakh.

What was your initial investment?
We started with Rs 20 lakh and took a year to research and plan before launching in February 2007.

What are your future plans?
We have spas in Mumbai, Delhi and Pune, and expect to expand to 10 cities by yearend. We are also planning spas in nonbranded resorts and hotels.
